SkyHigh Music was established in 1996 by founders Martin Briones, Joseph Black and Ian Aragon. Growing up as childhood friends, these three musically gifted individuals created their first track together using nothing more than a four track recorder and a simple drum machine. With hopes of discovering a way to maintain quality music which showcases their versatility, SkyHigh Music was born.
“SkyHigh Music is an incredible trio of song-writing producers, with a long career ahead of them,” Joshua Sarubin, VP of A&R for Sony/ATV Music Publishing, recently stated.
Originally based in Virginia Beach, VA, SkyHigh Music relocated in 2004, and have been creating hit records from SkyHigh Studios in Jersey City, NJ. Their knowledge of music history, individual musical talents, and songs they produce have created more than just a buzz in the industry.
Eric Speck, former Manager of A&R at Island Def Jam and current GM for The MuseBox, says, “SkyHigh Music consists of talented song-writing producers, resulting in a rare commodity.”
SkyHigh Music produces different genres of hip hop, pop, and R&B music using samples and live instrumentation. Recently, SkyHigh’s versatility in production was displayed when they placed street mix-tape rap records with Brooklyn MC, Uncle Murda, and R&B/pop records with international recording artist, David John. Last year, SkyHigh Music created one of the hottest mix-tape/albums of the summer when they produced, recorded, and mixed Jersey City MC, formerly of the A-Team, Hitchcock’s H2O: Chapter 1, Embalming Fluid. Aside from just making records, Team SkyHigh has also worked on and been involved in many different aspects of music and media, ranging from movie scores (Three21 Films) and video games (NBA2K) to commercials (Chevrolet Asia).
Joseph Black spoke positively about his team’s progression in the industry, “we’ve come a long way from VA. From the beach to the big city and we’re here to stay. We’ve learned a lot about how the industry works and built a lot of valuable relationships. From Jennifer Justice and Scott Felcher to Lenny S. and Rebecca Sweatman to Alex Shenitsky to Raymond Edwards. This year…it’s all about building on our strong foundation and delivering the right record at the right time.”
Knowing change is constant in the record industry, SkyHigh Music continues to evolve as they stay open-minded and adaptable as song-writing producers and entrepreneurs. They are currently shopping their trademark sound, and seeking to collaborate with both existing and new artists.
